Farmer Jason cultivates a younger audience
There is no shortage of rockers reinventing themselves as purveyors of children's music these days and the best among them (if you exclude They Might Be Giants, who arguably have always made kid-friendly music anyway), is Jason Ringenberg, aka Farmer Jason.

Long before he was cultivating children's country/rock, Ringenberg was out in the back 40 of alternative country/rock as the frontman of Jason and the Scorchers. Last year, he issued "A Day at the Farm with Farmer Jason" on Yep Roc Records. Family Fun magazine named it one of the top five CDs of 2003.

Ditching the Scorchers - and cohorts of any stripe, in fact - Farmer Jason now hits the trail alone with just his guitar, entertaining kids of all ages, especially on his current tour, which finds him playing during the day as Farmer Jason and as Jason Ringenberg later that night.

He apparently will only do the adult show when he comes to Milwaukee's Gil's Café, 2608 N. Downer Ave. on Thurs., March 4. But, I bet if you coax him hard enough, he might pull out a sing-along ditty or two.
